“WELL, THAT WAS an interesting development,” Tivali said.

“I don’t like the hell-cat,” Soraya fretted. “What if she eats our cats? Hocus Purrcus, Moonbeam and Cookie aren’t trained to fight hell-cats.”

“They seem to be doing fine,” Muezza said as Tempest set Kyrie on the floor and Cookie immediately pounced on her tail.

“That’s just because Cookie’s too sweet and trusting,” Soraya said. “He doesn’t realize how dangerous she is, so he’s busy making friends while she’s probably plotting his demise.”

“I’m sure he’ll be fine,” Bygul said impatiently. “Besides, we have other things to worry about.”

“Like how complicated this match has suddenly become,” Tivali agreed, “what with the two cat familiars, the pretend mating and the demon-dating.”

“Oh, no!” Soraya exclaimed. “Stop her, Bygul. She’s going to eat him!”

Muezza let out a snort. “She’s not eating him. She’s just scruffing him.”

“As if he’s her kitten,” Bygul agreed.

They all watched as Kyrie stalked through the downstairs of the coven house, once again in her larger form, this time as big as the panthers they’d mate-matched a while back, Cookie dangling from her mouth by the scruff of his neck.

Hocus Purrcus and Moonbeam hesitated a moment, then apparently decided Kyrie wasn’t as scary as they’d initially thought, because they chased after her, batting at her tail.

“I’ve changed my mind about the hell-cat,” Soraya said a moment later. “She can stay.”

“You’re so fickle,” Muezza said.

“I am not! I just didn’t realize she was going to adopt the earthbound cats. Everyone knows a mama cat is fiercely protective, so with the hell-cat watching over them, we’ll never have to worry about their safety again.”

“That’s true,” Tivali said, “unless Tempest ends up mating a demon.”

“I thought we were matching her with the chameleon!” Soraya exclaimed.

“Weren’t you paying attention?” Bygul asked. “Her father’s going to send demons to date her.”

“We can’t let her father match her to a demon,” Soraya said. “First of all, that’s our job. He’s Satan, not a matchmaking cat of a goddess. Plus, if he matches Tempest to a demon, she’ll end up going back to Hell and that would be a terrible environment for Cookie.”

“It really would,” Tivali agreed. “The problem is, if the witch is busy dating demons, I don’t see how we’re going to get her to fall in love with the chameleon.”

“No worries,” Bygul said. “I’ve got a plan.”
